A cast iron frying pan is also called a skillet. Cast iron absorbs a lot of heat and the thickness of the pan ensures that it stays hot. This makes a skillet very suitable for hot frying, but also for long simmering.

Maintenance of a cast iron pan
To maintain the pan, it is good to season your pan regularly:
Clean the pan thoroughly with water and dishwashing liquid. Then put it in the oven or on the barbecue (160-200 degrees) and heat the pan for at least thirty minutes. Then clean the pan thoroughly with a cloth or kitchen paper.
Then grease the cast iron pan with Crisco, clarified butter or rice oil and remove the excess fat with a cloth or kitchen paper. Place the pan back in the oven or on the barbecue and heat it for an hour. Then let it cool and remove the excess fat. When the pan has cooled, grease it one more time. Heat again for an hour in the oven or on the barbecue. Now the pan is ready for use.
NOTE: do not use sunflower oil for seasoning, as it will make the pan stick.
After use, soapy water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid is sufficient to clean the pan. The cast iron pan is not suitable for the dishwasher.
Tip: Did you leave it with water in it for a little too long? Don't worry, the flash rust that occurs will disappear like snow in the sun when you season the pan again!
